The effects of MV on different parameters, including changes to microvascular permeability and lung edema, inflammatory cytokines generation, neutrophil sequestration, an elevation in oxidative stress, a decrease in antioxidants, gas exchange, expression levels of HIF-1α mRNA and lung function, in mice with endotoxemia treated with high-tidal-volume MV were substantially ameliorated in HIF-1α-deficient mice (p < 0.05; Figure 5 and Figure 6).
