Studies have shown that miR-146 expression in peripheral blood monocytes decreased significantly while TRAF-6 mRNA expression increased in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and miR-146 expression is negatively linked to TRAF-6 and NF-κB mRNA levels as well as circulating TNF-α and IL-6 [17].
