It no longer induced detectable levels of typhocolitis (inflammation of the cecum, the main enteric histopathology in the non-typhoidal invasive salmonellosis mouse model24) as determined either by quantification of cecal luminal inflammation marker lipocalin-2 (Fig. 1c) or by histopathologic scoring (Fig. 1d, e). This evidence concerns the gene LCN2 and salmonellosis.
