Krifa et al. (2013) have demonstrated the anti-cancer effect of the aqueous gall extract (G extract) of Limoniastrum guyonianum and luteolin. These two natural products downregulate UHRF1 and DNMT1 via global DNA hypomethylation and activate p16INK4A-dependent cell cycle checkpoint signaling. Thus, G extract and luteolin inhibit cervical cancer cell proliferation and induce programmed cell death (Krifa et al., 2013). However, they have only used HeLa cells in vitro.
