Histological analysis revealed otherwise no apoptotic cells after staining with caspase 3 antibody (S5 Fig), whereas CD45 staining revealed infiltration of inflammatory cells in all layers of the posterior compartments, mainly in retinal ganglion cell layer and the inner retina, but also in the optic nerve and in the iris of the anterior eye, suggesting neuroretinitis and uveitis (Fig 7C). Here, CASP3 is linked to uveitis.
