More importantly, inhibition of the ACE/AngII/AT1R axis by AT1R inhibitors (Rosselli et al., 2009; Montez et al., 2012; Sansoe et al., 2019), gene knockout animal models (Jayasooriya et al., 2008), or activation of the ACE2/Ang1-7/Mas axis by exogenous Ang1-7 (Munoz et al., 2012; Feltenberger et al., 2013; Cao et al., 2016) in rodents can ameliorate NAFLD by suppressing liver lipogenesis, enhancing fatty acid oxidation, and inhibiting inflammation and gluconeogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene ACE and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
