CFTR and cystic fibrosis: Although the main CF disease strains are non-neuronal, relevance of CFTR in neurons has been proposed for years, as the channel is expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system of several species, including rodents, pigs and humans (Mulberg et al., 1994, 1995, 1998; Rogan et al., 2010; Kanno and Nishizaki, 2011; Reznikov et al., 2013; Marcorelles et al., 2014; Reznikov, 2017).
