In contrast, a 1724-fold increase of ClCA3 mRNA transcripts is found after induction of inflammatory pain in an antigen-induced model for arthritis, but a role for this protein could so far not be corroborated in a follow-up study, where ClCA3 knockout mice show a minor reduction in joint swelling but no pain phenotype (Ebbinghaus et al., 2014). Here, CLCA3P is linked to arthritic joint disease.
