Based on the hypothesis that Myc-downregulation-dependent reduction in the number of germline cells (MDRG) is the mechanism responsible for eliminating germline cells whose genomes have been damaged by P-element mobilization, we predicted that inhibition of MDRG by Myc overexpression in the HD germline would result in production of aberrant gametes with a high mutation frequency and a low capacity to produce progeny. Here, MYC is linked to Huntington disease.
