Although the mechanisms of GLP‐1 receptor agonists on NAFLD have not yet been clearly explained, clinical and experimental studies have suggested that GLP‐1 therapies may directly exert actions on the liver through activation of GLP‐1 receptors in hepatocytes, resulting in the regulation of gene expression associated with insulin secretion and lipid metabolism.36, 37. This evidence concerns the gene INS and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
