INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Liraglutide, a glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonist, is approved for the treatment of T2DM at doses up to 1.8 mg once daily13 and for weight loss at up to 3.0 mg once daily.14 It exerts several glycemic and nonglycemic effects, including the regulation of glucose levels by stimulating glucose‐dependent insulin secretion and the suppression of glucagon secretion.15 Liraglutide also shows beneficial effects on obese individuals with prediabetes to reduce the risk for progression to T2DM.16
