In the sensory epithelium of Irf5−/− mice where M1 macrophage polarization is suppressed25,38, induction of the genes encoding F4/80, Mac-1 and Iba1 macrophage markers, suppression of Cd200r1 (Fig. 6b), and migration of the SCs in response to virus infection (Fig. 6a,c, compared to Fig. 2a) were all impaired. The gene discussed is IRF5; the disease is viral infectious disease.
