CD8A and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is another herpesvirus that results in chronic latent infection, and has a high prevalence (>90%) in the adult population.9 In healthy individuals, CD8+ T cells are responsible for immunological control of EBV.9–11 Although clinical reactivations of EBV in CLL patients are rare, several studies have shown an increased frequency of subclinical reactivations of EBV in CLL patients.
