Even though we recognized this limitation, this is a mechanism that finds some support in a previous preclinical study, since a single 150 mg/kg dose intraperitoneally two hours after induction of subarachnoid hemorrhage reduced the levels of interleukins (IL0-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metallopeptidases (MMPs) in the left basal cerebral cortex[73].
