Several reports state that NLRP12 functions as a negative regulator of inflammation in tumorigenesis [57–59], colitis [60, 61] and obesity [62], while Wang et al.report that NLRP12 can activate inflammatory signaling pathways by regulating the activation of NF-kB and CASP1-dependent cytokine processing [63]. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP12 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
