The identification of BRCA1 pathogenic variant carriers is of the most importance since these patients can now benefit from preventive treatments (early detection of contra-lateral breast cancer, prophylactic mastectomy, or oophorectomy) and most importantly from innovative treatments, including poly (adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors like olaparib [10]. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
