A bacterial exogenous endophthalmitis still was considered the most likely diagnosis, but blood cultures were drawn from 2 separate sites and serum testing for Quantiferon-Tb, rapid plasma reagin (RPR), fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-Abs), Lyme enzyme immunoassay, Toxoplasma immunoglobulin M and immunoglobulin G, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) was performed to rule out other causes of uveitis. The gene discussed is ACE; the disease is endophthalmitis.
