The P. nodorum genome encodes three sesquiterpene synthases (Chooi et al., 2014), Sts1, Sts2, and Sts3. Previous studies have demonstrated that Sts1 and 2 are expressed during infection, but not Sts3. Furthermore, analysis of the Sts3 gene sequence revealed that it appears truncated implying that it isn’t functional and thus it was not considered for further study (Ipcho et al., 2012). The gene discussed is UBASH3B; the disease is infection.
