Inhibiting the activity of tankyrases is expected to target two of the most common pathways important for tumor cell survival: (1) telomere shortening [15]; (2) β-catenin degradation by stabilizing axin [16,17,18] and the inhibition of the transcription of important cell proliferating genes of the WNT/β-catenin pathway targets, such as c-Myc [19] and Cyclin D1 [20].
