Since our previous studies on normal human theca cells established that elevating expression of DENND1A.V2 increased androgen production, we hypothesized that a hDENND1A.V2 transgene would augment endogenous androgen synthesis by mouse ovaries, creating a model of PCOS, or at least a phenocopy of the hyperandrogenemia and ovarian dysfunction of PCOS. The gene discussed is DENND1A; the disease is polycystic ovary syndrome.
