A recent GWAS analysis of a discovery cohort of 1,400 adults with critical illness (760 with AKI) followed by a separate replication cohort of 200 AKI cases (14) has yielded two single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) involving the transcription factor interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) and an additional two SNPs close to the transcription factor T-box 1 (TBX1). This evidence concerns the gene TBX1 and acute kidney injury.
