HLA-C and neoplasm: While we demonstrate that a significant degree of immune evasion may be attributed to immunogenically silent mutations, the absence of complete immunoediting in patients not harboring immunogenically silent mutations may be attributed to factors including tumor intrinsic immune evasion, downregulation of MHC, lack of T cell response of the proper magnitude and quality, poor TCR repertoire, exclusion of T cells from tissue, or peripheral tolerance.
