As far as HIV infection per se is concerned, significant liver fibrosis was correlated with clinical AIDS (CDC staging C) while absolute CD4 count, duration of seropositivity, duration of low CD4 count (both under 350 as well as under 50 cells/mm3) and duration of traceable viral load, were not associated with a higher risk of liver fibrosis. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and HIV infectious disease.
