MALAT1 and diabetic retinopathy: Malat1−/− mice showed a delayed vessel extension in the retina revascularization, while pharmacological inhibition of MALAT1 reduced blood flow recovery and capillary density after hindlimb ischemia and ameliorate diabetic retinopathy, such as microvascular leakage, and retinal inflammation [81, 82], suggesting an important role of MALAT1 in promoting endothelial cell proliferation and blood vessel growth.
