We previously studied smears of dispersed cells from nasal epithelial surface of 10 patients with allergic rhinitis and found that the mean of the proportion of tryptase only, tryptase/chymase positive, and protease negative (possibly basophils) metachromatic cells were 82.8%, 10.1%, and 7.1%, respectively.26 This evidence concerns the gene CMA1 and allergic rhinitis.
