AKT1 and cancer: In this study, we (a) establish the Ca2+‐binding protein NCS1 as a stress response protein that is up‐regulated by NFκB‐activating stimuli, (b) reinforce its importance for cell survival and motility, and (c) demonstrate that NCS1 modulates Ca2+ signaling and Akt activity, both of which are important for cancer progression (Monteith et al., 2017; Vivanco and Sawyers, 2002) (Fig. 8).
