KIR3DL1 and HIV-1 infection: Thirdly, in HIV-1 infection we found that similarity in terms of activating KIR binding (aKIR.FS) revealed clinically relevant subtleties lost within the traditional KIR3DS1:Bw4-80I protective group, essentially splitting this group into 3 groups with decreasing levels of protection; again it is difficult to see how such a result could be generated other than by a method that was reflecting biological reality.
