IL17C and fungal infectious disease: Increased epithelial expression of IL-17C has been observed in response to a variety of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections (Ramirez-Carrozzi et al., 2011; Song et al., 2011; Ioannidis et al., 2012; Pfeifer et al., 2013; Huang et al., 2016; Jamieson et al., 2019), but the role of IL-17C appears variable, as both protective (Ramirez-Carrozzi et al., 2011; Song et al., 2011; Kusagaya et al., 2014) and pathogenic (Ramirez-Carrozzi et al., 2011; Huang et al., 2016) functions have been reported in various bacterial or fungal infections.
