After long term treatment with DHADA and EPADA in breast cancer cells, an enhanced levels of Beclin-1 cleavage associated with activation of the apoptotic cascade (cytochrome c release from mitochondria to the cytosol) was found, highlighting the complex dialogue between autophagy and apoptosis induced by DHADA and EPADA in breast cancer cells [23]. The gene discussed is CYCS; the disease is breast carcinoma.
