CRP and infection: C-reactive protein (CRP) is the first APR to be discovered, whose plasma concentrations at baseline are less than 2–3 μg/ml, but can rapidly increase up to 1000-fold upon infection or tissue injury; the heightened levels of CRP, however, return to the baseline with the resolution of inflammation (Pepys and Hirschfield, 2003; Du Clos, 2013; Pathak and Agrawal, 2019).
