Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP; molecular mass: 14,858 Da [21]; normal reference ranges for male subjects: 3.5 ± 0.4; for female subjects: 3.9 ± 0.4 ng/mL [22]) is a small cytoplasmic protein that transports long-chained fatty acids in cardiomyocytes and is considered a biomarker of myocardial ischemia [23].
