Generalizability of our results can be further inferred by the results of a Finnish population based study that demonstrated a strong interaction between maternal BMI and maternal diabetes on offspring prematurity but similar to the results of our study, revealed no additive effect of increased maternal BMI to the inherent high risk of prematurity in women with type 2 diabetes or diabetes treated with insulin [32]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
