The role of systemic inflammation has been studied in several cancers; the most investigated inflammation markers are: C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin combined as the modified Glasgow Prognostic Score (mGPS), neutrophil- lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), white cell count and CRP as the prognostic index (PI) and the combination of albumin and lymphocyte count in prognostic nutritional index (PNI). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is cancer.
