Wnt5a can function either as a regulator of cell migration and invasion or as a tumor suppressor (for two extensive reviews, see Kikuchi et al., 2012; Endo et al., 2015), leading to the notion of complex and opposing roles of this ligand in cancer (Pukrop and Binder, 2008; McDonald and Silver, 2009).
