UCP2 and obesity disorder: The authors found that in a rat model of diet-induced obesity (DIO), cannabis extract treatment reduced the weight gain (mainly fat depots) and increased energy expenditure through upregulation of protein kinase B (PKB), mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2), and glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2) expression in pancreatic β-cells (rats were injected subcutaneously every second day for 28 days; the first five treatments containing an equivalence of 5 mg THC/kg body weight and the remaining treatments an equivalence of 2,5 mg THC/kg body weight) (126).
