This rare subset of pulmonary SCLC in never/light smokers is of particular interest as druggable oncogenic alterations in NSCLC, including EGFR mutations and ALK rearrangements, are more commonly observed in never smokers than in those with a history of smoking (Shigematsu et al., 2005; Wong et al., 2009). This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
