The SENCIS trial is a phase III trial of nintedanib in SSc-ILD that is currently ongoing.48 Many other new therapeutics that target specific growth factors, cytokines or pathways (e.g., monoclonal CTGF antibodies, tocilizumab, endostatin 1-derived peptide, caveolin scaffolding domain), as well as multiple existing drugs that might be repurposed to treat fibrosis (e.g., PPAR-γ agonists [e.g., rosiglitazone], statins [rosuvastatin], fluoroquinolone antibiotics [e.g., ciprofloxacin], and thrombin inhibitors [e.g., dabigatran]) are being tried for SSc-ILD. The gene discussed is CCN2; the disease is systemic sclerosis.
