The protein that the human gene LTA4H encodes is an enzyme containing both: (a) hydrolase, with the function of converting leukotriene A4 (LTA4) into leukotriene B4 (LTB4), a proinflammatory mediator and; (b) aminopeptidase, recognized as a biological characteristic of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Uniprot; PubMed_Gene).
