The neuropathological hallmarks of AD include the presence of extracellular senile plaques constituted by the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) composed of hyper-phosphorylated paired helical filaments of the microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) [3]. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
