The significance of these observations is two-fold; first, this study demonstrates a clear involvement of iron-catalyzed ROS in TGF-β2-associated POAG, and second, the involvement of hepcidin in this process provides an untapped opportunity for using hepcidin antagonists as adjuncts to ROCK inhibitors and other treatment options for POAG.4 This evidence concerns the gene TGFB2 and open-angle glaucoma.
