In oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), it has been recently shown that HPV-negative OPSCC patients display higher levels of the autophagic marker LC3B, analyzed by immunohistochemistry; vice versa HPV-positive tumors correlate with a reduction in LC3B protein levels suggesting that autophagy is affected in HPV-positive cancers (Lai et al., 2018). The gene discussed is MAP1LC3B; the disease is oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma.
