Abnormal glucose metabolism in diabetic patients leads to overproduction of superoxide, which causes diabetes complications mainly through five processes: (1) polyol pathway flux, (2) increased AGE formation, (3) increased expression of AGEs and its activating ligand receptor, (4) activation of PKC, and (5) overactivity of the hexosamine pathway (Singh et al., 2005). Here, PRRT2 is linked to diabetes mellitus.
