In the group of HF patients, we observed a significant increase in the activity of salivary antioxidant enzymes (SOD in NWS and SWS, CAT in NWS), and increased concentration of UA (in NWS, SWS, and plasma) vs. the control, which can be considered an adaptive response of the body to intensified production of free radicals. The gene discussed is SOD1; the disease is hydrops fetalis.
