CFP and infection: In contrast to the CFP lines, resistance to C. nicotianae was identified in lines transformed with both ATR1 and 71cR. Interestingly, the phenotype of the resistance response differed between the two, with ATR1-transformed lines showing a reduction mostly in the size of lesions and the 71cR-transformed lines showing fewer lesions that did expand, suggesting a difference in the mode of action of these two genes in protecting against infection.
