An association between tumor chemo‐resistance and H‐ferritin subunit overexpression of iron was previously reported.14 Furthermore, it has been revealed that there is a close relationship between iron deprivation and reduced MDR1 expression in the K562 cell line.15 Additionally, Li and colleagues demonstrated that iron strengthens the paracrine loop of IL‐6 and confers resistance to breast cancer cells against chemotherapy.16 However, the exact molecular mechanism by which this tiny but vital element can affect the response to therapy remains to be fully established. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and breast cancer.
