Recently, some studies reported that ALA monotherapy or in combination with gabapentin or pregabalin could alleviate the pain symptoms of diabetic patients.17 Moreover, our previous studies found that ALA can reverse the high expressions of NaV1.7, NaV1.8, and P2X3 receptors in DRG neurons of STZ‐induced diabetic rats.18, 19 We suppose that ALA may alleviate neuropathic pain in diabetes by affecting the excitability of DRG neurons and the sensitization of the peripheral nervous system. Here, SCN9A is linked to diabetes mellitus.
