In our study, we examined the methylation and the mRNA levels of PPARGC1A at the same time and found a significant negative correlation between the mean DNA methylation level of PPARGC1A and the PPARGC1A mRNA level, suggesting that PPARGC1A DNA methylation, especially at the CpG_1 and CpG_17.18 sites, which were also found to be significantly hypermethylated in patients with PD, may have an effect on PPARGC1A transcription. This evidence concerns the gene PPARGC1A and Parkinson disease.
