A recent study identified an active tannase enzyme from the oral pathogen Fusobacterium nucleatum48 – only lately described to promote CRC similar to Sgg. Of note, serum anti-Fn antibody IgA combined with carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen are reliable screening tools and just as for F. nucleatum49, efforts to use Sgg antibodies as serum biomarkers are on the way for CRC risk stratification50. This evidence concerns the gene CEACAM5 and colorectal carcinoma.
