TTR and Alzheimer disease: Protein aggregation has been shown to involve natively unfolded or intrinsically disordered systems, such as in amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide in Alzheimer’s disease, or even folded or globular proteins, such as in transthyretin (TTR) associated amyloidoses, where the misfolding process occurs through the formation of partially unfolded states (Table 1 and Figure 1).
