VEGFA and diabetic retinopathy: Indeed, Protocol U by the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network revealed that the combination therapy with ranibizumab plus dexamethasone significantly reduced retinal thickness (ie ameliorate diabetic macular oedema) compared with the ranibizumab monotherapy, despite no difference in vision between the arms.50 Many questions remain, however, regarding glucocorticoid use in conjunction with anti‐VEGF agents, including the appropriate combination of agents, the timing of therapeutic transition, and the outcomes of such protocols.
