The lncRNA H19 is highly expressed in embryonic tissue and placenta and repressed after birth (Pachnis et al., 1988; Poirier et al., 1991), but is highly re‐expressed in multiple cancers including both hematopoietic (Takeuchi et al., 2007) and solid tumors including breast (Adriaenssens et al., 1998), esophageal (Hibi et al., 1996), bladder (Ariel et al., 1995; Elkin et al., 1995), lung (Kondo et al., 1995), and endometrial and cervical (Lee et al., 2003) cancers.
