AD is characterized by several hallmarks, such as abnormal deposition of Aβ in amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) in the brain, deficits in synaptic function and neuron loss, and abnormal accumulation of Tau and phosphorylated Tau (Yang et al., 2018; Chen and Mobley, 2019).
